Frequently asked questions

Why work with an agency for my book?

Working with us means you’re not alone in the process. We champion your stories by pairing you with talented illustrators and a proven creative process. We also handle all the operations like quotes, contracts, timelines, and payments, so you and your illustrator can focus on what matters most: bringing your book to life the way you imagined it.

What type of clients and projects do you work with?

We work with indie authors of children’s books. Many of them come to us with personal stories, often inspired by their families, life experiences, or values. Whether it’s a tribute, a cherished memory, or a powerful message about inclusion or resilience, we’re honored to help bring these stories to life.

How should I start a project with your agency?

You can reach out to us directly via contact@puflibooks.com, and we will respond within 24 hours. If you want to gain instant, personalized feedback on what creating a children’s book entails, we recommend taking our Readiness Assessment Quiz.

Do I need to have illustrations finished before contacting you?

Not at all! Just your manuscript to be nearly complete, and together we’ll find an illustrator that will match your expectations. We’ll also provide you the necessary files to upload to any on-demand publishing platform.

What does your illustration process look like?

We’ve tailored our process focusing on indie authors with little or no experience. We start with the characters, then sketch scenes, and finally the full artwork and color. If you wish to learn more about the creative process, we recommend you check out our Quick Guide for the Indie Author.

How long does a book project usually take?

The timeline varies based on illustration complexity and book length. Typically, a 24-page book project takes between 3 to 4 months to complete. However, we can adjust depending on the case. Let's talk about your dates!

How much does an illustrated book project cost?

Quotes depend on many factors, like the number of illustrations needed, their type (spot, full-page, spread, custom design), and complexity (detailed backgrounds, multiple character scenes, etc.). To get an accurate quote tailored to your project and budget, feel free to reach out to contact@puflibooks.com.

What do you provide when the project is complete?

Final deliverables include high‑resolution digital files in .PDF format. We also provide files optimized for on-demand publishing platforms like Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, BookBaby, Lulu, Blurb.

What are the payment terms?

We divide the total cost into milestone-based payments (after character design, book layout, final artwork coloring, and cover approval), so the process is manageable and helps you feel confident to move forward. We accept payments via Payoneer and bank transfer, but if you prefer another method, we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Who owns the rights to the artwork?

Our standard approach is the transfer of copyright to the client, while our artists retain attribution rights (credits to the creator of the artwork) and integrity rights (no modifications without prior agreement). All details are discussed before the start of the project, and we’re always open to adjusting terms based on your specific needs.

Do you support indie authors with extras like design or formatting advice?

Yes! We also offer add-ons such as custom designs and script editing. All standard and needed file formatting for your next steps into publishing are covered with your original quote.
